Personalize every screen: using answers as variables in your quiz

How to use earlier answers — name, goal, age, focus areas — in later titles, results and offers, with safe fallbacks, so every visitor feels the funnel was written for them.

The fastest way to make a quiz feel personal is also the simplest: repeat what people told you.

"Ana, your 28-day plan is ready" beats "Your plan is ready". "Built for your goal: lose weight" beats "Built for your goals". Small changes, but they tell the visitor that every answer mattered.

What is an answer variable?

An answer variable is a name you give to a question's answer so you can use it later. Common ones:

  • {{name}} from a first-name field
  • {{goal}} from "What's your main goal?"
  • {{age}} from an age picker
  • {{zones}} from a multi-select like "Which areas do you want to focus on?"

In InteractiveFunnel you name the answer with Save answer as, then insert it in any later text: titles, subtitles, answers, lists, loader messages and buttons.

Where to use variables

In the result headline

The result is the payoff. Put the name and the main goal in the headline:

{{name}}, your plan for {{goal}} is ready

In the analysis loader

A completion message like "Your plan is ready, {{name|friend}}!" makes the loader feel like it was working for them.

In mid-funnel steps

After you know someone's goal, reference it in later questions: "To reach {{goal}}, how much time can you spend each day?" It keeps the conversation connected.

In offers and buttons

"Get {{name}}'s plan" or "Start my {{goal}} plan" on the final button can feel natural when the rest of the funnel is personal too. Test it; don't overdo it.

Always set a fallback

Variables are only as good as their data. If someone skips an optional field, or the variable comes from a branch they didn't take, the text should still read well.

Use a fallback after a vertical bar:

  • {{name|friend}} → "friend" when there's no name
  • {{goal|your goals}} → "your goals" when the question wasn't answered

Only use answers the visitor has already given

This sounds obvious, but it's the most common mistake: a variable in step 2 that comes from a question in step 5. The visitor sees the fallback, or worse, an empty gap.

InteractiveFunnel helps here: the Personalize strip in the builder only offers variables from earlier steps, and from branches that happen before the current step.

Multi-select answers

For multi-select questions, the variable becomes a readable list: "belly, arms and legs". Use it in sentences where a list sounds natural:

Your plan focuses on {{zones}}.

Keep the name for the right moment

Asking for the name early lets you personalize more steps, but it's also an extra field before any value. A good compromise:

  • Ask for name and email together, after the analysis loader.
  • Use {{name}} on the result, the offer and follow-up emails.

Personalization checklist

  • Every result headline uses at least one answer.
  • Every variable has a fallback.
  • No variable is used before its question.
  • Multi-select variables appear in sentences that read well as lists.
  • The final offer references the visitor's main goal.
